i have been spending my time making invitations for my friends baby showers and parties that i have hardly spent two minutes to clean my house. good thing i saw this on pinterest, it gave me the much needed push to get cleaning.

but i noticed after two trips down to the computer to check the list (i am not going to clean and work out!) that i needed it printed out and in my face. so, i did the classy thing and stole the list and made my own (sorry to the wonderful lady who made the original).

and since i am such a nice person, i am giving you mine! just leave your email and which one you want and i'll send you the file!

yesterday when i woke susie up she greeted me with a gentle tap tap on my nose,

it was the cutest thing, so like any good mother i ran for the camera. i got sidetracked to the camera and grabbed a sucker and in this video all the gal wants is that sucker. poor thing, had she known that if she just did her trick that it would be hers!

my parents came up to the the burg on monday for a ridiculously short visit (please come back, liam is looking for both of you!) to have christmas. (just under a month late, we are busy people)

i don't have a ton of pictures but the day consisted of ebelskivers (nutella, vanilla, raspberry and sweet corn and green chili), tickle fights, presents, taco soup and a movie!

there might have been a scolding in there from liam to his grandpa for scaring him, but over all it was a great visit. i love having them up here.

Saturday Ern and I had a game night where we played two of the most irritating games ever. Scrabble and Monopoly. It's pretty amazing that our marriage made it out in one piece given how competitive we both are (love you bunches babe!).

Ern's score is in the blue and mine in the pink. I'll leave the scrabble playing to rest of the english majors in my family. Best luck to anyone who wants to challenge him! He is ruthless.

And onto Monopoly despite my getting one of the prime spots on the board (that never happens) I decided to end the game at a reasonable hour. Ern only agreed to end if I announced that he was the winner. (yeah, you can be the winner babe even though I had 10x the amount of money you did)

This sums up my first week of potty training with Liam . He doesn't care to pee all over himself or the floor because anywhere is better than the toilet. I could just cry, and many times I have into my pillow. Liam is PLENTY smart, he just has a freak out anxiety attack every time I put him on the toilet.
And here's the worst of it; we will have one good day of peeing on the toilet 3x and pooping even but then at night we put the pull up on and by next morning he is a beast again and then we won't have a good day for the next two days. I have tried everything to motivate this child from candy and dancing when he goes to (I hate to admit it) but ultimatums and stern talking to's.
Even now I can hear the sweet cries of toilet torture. I told myself I wasn't going to be one of those moms that decides my kids should be potty trained by a certain age and end up pushing them into underwear and daily accidents, but look at me now.
I am giving it one more day. I am buying one of those stupid toilet insert things and if tomorrow isn't freakin' sunshine and pee rainbows I am giving up and holding off until prom night.

Ugh.

I sat at the stop light waiting for the longest light ever to change and I saw what I presumed* to be a man down on his luck.

His sign said he was embarrassed because he is a single father and just trying to make it blah blah blah (I can be a little cynical, just wait until you hear the end). And here I was in my nice car, warm, relatively happy kids in tow, and to my right were 6 loaves of the best bread ever. And so I said to myself,

"Self you will regret not giving him a loaf, look at him, he probably hasn't eaten today".

And so I held up the line (of course the light changed right when I wanted to spread some holiday cheer. Everyone behind me was so thrilled) and handed him a loaf of pumpkin chocolate chip bread. And I said,

"Sorry, I don't have any cash but I do have this. Merry Christmas!".

And he said,

"This smells wonderful! I'll go put it in my car."

Curious.

THE ornament exchange party! Seriously, this is probably the party of the year thrown by a truly fabulous woman. First off, her house is stunning. It is so well decorated and it was decked out for the holidays. Second she can cook, and cook well. We had three different kinds of cream puffs, caramel sauce with apples, spinach dip and crusty bread, two different kinds of breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls. NBD

It was so good I couldn't even pause to take a picture.

We then voted and were given a bag and it was over. Just. Like. That.

* i heard liam refer to susie as 'sweetheart'. talk about heart melting.

* it is a good thing that this boy is sweet because dang, yesterday at the mall he was pushing my sanity. (he had a poopy diaper and a neglectful mother ..ten points for me!)

* ern and i canned 24 quarts and 9 pints of peaches. (not really a thought...more of a brag...and ern did most of the work)

* my ward is splitting on sunday and i could not be more heartsick about it.

* i am having a pinterest party. who wants in?

* we are taking family photos tomorrow and i pray my kids will be good. i am bringing treats but maybe i should also have someone funny to keep them smiling.

* i totally vacuumed my table today.

So I fell off the vegan band wagon last night.

I had just done a session at the temple and naturally since yesterday ended in 'y' I was starving, and I went to the church to meet with some other ladies from the ward and socialize while they stuffed their glowing faces with pie and ice cream. I was fully prepared to sit out on this glutton fest. Truly. I did it the night before (Wed) when I said no thanks to a piece of triple layer strawberry cake.
Aren't you proud?

But then my friend and amazing chef Jaleen said,

"I made the apple pie."

And so ended my vegan experiment right then and there. It was good. Oh, so good.

And I may or may not have had three pieces of said pie, two bites of cherry and half a piece of pumpkin cheesecake.

But really, can you blame me?

I fully encourage and support my sister-in-law in her continuation of the challenge. Stick it to the cow! It's just not for me or my family, I feel like we need a more gradual approach when it comes to lifestyle changes. (my poor kids bums are so raw)

I will however read up on the word of wisdom and thoughtfully and prayerfully think about with what and how we are nourishing our bodies. I came out of this experiment (however short it was) with new recipes, insights and a new love for healthier foods.

day three of veganism and i am pretty sure my body is throwing it's best defenses back in my face.

my two current favs are:

1. you throw all this foreign matter at me and you get....gastro issues. majorly.

now i eat fruit and veggies everyday normally, i am not a caveman, and i have never had this kind of problem.

2. 3lb weight gain.

what? you would think that with all the gastro fun-ness, and overall eating healthy that weight loss would be expected. right? nope. which leads me to my conclusion....

okay, not really. but for reals my sister-in-law ( hi rachel!) challenged me to go vegan for 21 days. and i said yes. obviously, i was busy and not paying attention to what she was really saying because i love butter and it's salty creaming goodness (what it does to toast is positively incredible) to ever say goodbye no questions asked. and now rachel won't let me get out of it. great. what this means:
no cheese
no milk
no butter
no sourcream
no cake
no brownies
no zucchini fries (b/c you dip them in egg and then bread crumbs)
no cereal
no pancakes
no eggs (there goes on of my favorite breakfasts ever)
no bread
no meat
no joy
no love
no laughter

there is probably more to this list that i am missing but what i don't know wont hurt right? right, rachel? so tomorrow i die. and if i don't die be prepared for some grumpy blog posts because we all know how much i love food.

Friday: We went to this fun place with these fun people. I don't know why I waited all summer to go here. (And I am happy to report that Liam and Asher didn't fight the entire time we were there...double yes!)

Sunday: Other than me looking super fly in my new outfit, I felt like crap thanks to a migraine that has set up camp for the last 3 days. So while Ern took care of the kids all day (thanks babe!) I did this.

since i treat this blog like my journal, i need to write these thoughts down even if it is late.

last night was our first time camping with our kids and as we settled in to go to sleep uneasiness found me, and i became anxious (i know, weird right?). i was worried about bears and all sorts of critters coming into the tent and ripping us to shreds. i had expressed those thoughts to ern and immediately liam stroked my face and told me not to be scared, and that everything is ok. i melted.

here i was, the adult, being comforted by my two year old son.

tonight, liam was having a hard time staying in his bed so i went up to go lie (lay?) down with him. i have to admit that i was getting drowsy and just when i thought liam was finally asleep he starts scratching my back and giving me kisses.

again, here i was being comforted by this little boy.

liam's sensitive and caring demeanor has by far outgrown his little frame and i love that about him.

We are in the famous Sun Valley. You know, just living the life. It is so old school beautiful here, I can only imagine what it was like in the 1960s.

My days so far have consisted of over priced (rightfully so) food, and bravo tv. I know I should be relaxing and enjoying this kid free time but I am not sure what that means.

Who am I without my kids? Apparently a lazy, tv addicted, bum.

We had the pleasure of watching my nephews Ian and Asher Davis for the past weekend and boy was it stellar. They built tunnels, bridges, played cars, learned the ways of effective video gaming (from their papas), hit, kicked, cried, and laughed. Serious fun! And now that they are gone Liam is sad. He woke me this morning asking where Asher was so he could play.

She's crafty

I have been really busy lately, like really.

Let me explain.

See, I have been trying to become a crafter.

You know, with the hot glue gun, the ribbon and the mod podge.

Don't laugh.

So, since I am not a crafty person the average no big deal craft takes me 3 times as long.

This one I am about to show you took me a day instead of just a couple of hours.

But it's so pretty.

Susan, the princess

   Susan has gotten in touch with her princess side recently (understandable, we all have one). This little nugget will scream like no ones business for two things: mom/food and a diaper change.

   One night earlier this week Susan started SCREAMING and we could not figure it out. So I went through the checklist:
Hungry? Nope just fed her.
Burped? Yup.
Diaper? I looked in the side and didn't see anything.
Hot? Maybe.

   So I started taking off her little clothes item by item hoping that the screaming will stop so my ears can heal. When I got to the diaper I thought 'since I am here', change the diaper, I opened it and what do you know?! There was the tiniest bit of mustard in there. I mean the smallest little bit and as soon as I wiped her she stopped crying and gave her father and I a HUGE 'thank you for finally getting it' grin.

Wow.

Ern dubbed her as

"Princess and the poo"

  Finding Nemo. Total favorite around here.
   Lately anytime I get out of these four walls (average 2x a week) I have noticed that I attack and cling to whoever I am with.
   For example, I ran into someone from church at Wal-Mart and I literally talked until she feigned death. (Not totally accurate but this is my blog)

     It's annoying. I'm annoying. I bug my self. Is this my real personality or is it just cabin fever?
   I am like Lennie who just wanted to pet the dang dog and ended up killing it.

--a little ditty i wrote in the fog that is illness.

the davis house is sick. it is 5:24 in the a.m. and i have been up since 3 battling a nasty sore throat (the first symptom of the beast) while all around me i can hear a symphony of coughs, hacks, moans, snorts and horns.

horns? yes, the sound of many noses being blown. there was no one word description for it. maybe there is. blah. get off my back, i am sick.

a little message to the mother's who bring their sick kids to church:

don't ever do it again.

now i realize illness is in constant rotation around any given household but there is a line people! green, gooey snot is that line. and when i close mouth smile at you that is not an invitation but a message, "sit next to me with your germs of death and i will destroy you!!!". come on now!

am i wrong?

nope.

now where is my bulb syringe?

My goal was to capture her sweetness and tenderness, and I came really close.

We blessed Susan Adele on a beautiful and warm Sunday morning in August.

The blessing was sweet and perfectly described our girlie; she has a tender spirit and gentle nature and she is a wonderful blessing to her parents.

Aaron's wonderful Aunt Kari made all three Susan's and me a matching bracelet for the special day.

I could not pass up posting this picture of Susie with her great-grandma and grandpa Davis.

Thank you to all who came, it was a special day I will never forget.

The story:

Friday June 25th started out just like every other day had that week; I was up at the crack of dawn scrubbing and organizing my house for the billionth time. I figured I still had a week left of pregnancy so I might as well get everything ready because my patience was running WAY too thin to sit hoping that something might happen. I think my whole family can attest to that. Sorry family, I was crazy and hormonal. Tangent.

CCCCoooommmiiinnggg back to the story...

I was feeling slight not-so-promising cramps off and on during my cleaning but, as soon as I rested, they would fade away into nothing. The afternoon brought the neighbor kids to my door wanting to jam out on Rockband and eat my delish food. It was fun. Liam loved it, of course: he loves the attention. After the kids left, I felt a brisk walk might do us all some good, so Ern and I packed up Liam and left. The walk brought some pretty strong contractions, but, again, as soon as we got home they stopped. I called my clinic to ask them when I should come in and they said, since my water hadn't broken, I hadn't been contracting every 4 minutes for an hour, and there was no blood, that I didn't need to go in; but, if one of those were to happen, then to head to the hospital. We said a quick family prayer to know what to do.

A few minutes later, at my 100th potty break, I noticed some blood which sent me into panic mode. I yelled for Ern to grab Liam and head for the car. The man has never moved that quickly! We arrived at the hospital and I was checked and admitted. While I was getting my I.V. and signing all the forms, Liam was in hog heaven running around the room looking through cupboards and playing with buttons; all without shoes I might add. Yes, we forgot his shoes, my son was running around barefoot in a hospital... gross.

Luckily, my good friend Debbie came to our rescue and took care of Liam until Ern's mom arrived. Sue came in for a quick hello and took my Liam away. I still choke up thinking about saying goodbye to my only child for the last time.

I got my epidural immediately for a couple of reasons:
1. My doctor wanted me to receive a full round of antibiotics before the baby was born, which would end at 10:30 p.m. and I didn't want to feel anything for the next 5 hours.
2. I was scared that my water would break and I would dilate so quickly that I wouldn't have time to get one.

Note to self---epidurals give me the giggles and the shakes.

Onward! At 9:30 they started the pitocin and I slept. Meanwhile, my body was at a slow crawl toward 10 centimeters. When I was checked again at 11:45 and I was still at a 5 (where I had been since 9:30 and after bumping up the pitocin), the doctor noticed that my water hadn't broken and that the giggles really just made me pee the bed rather than break my water. Good times! So he broke my water and said, "We'll be having this baby before midnight." (Midnight was in 15 minutes). Within 10 minutes, I told Ern to push my epidural button because I was feeling weird pressure and I was sure that it was wearing off. The doctor came in 15 seconds later and said these exact words "You're feeling pressure, huh?" He checked me and I was indeed at a 10 and ready to go! He yelled for the nurse. YELLED, I tell you, and the room went buzzing with excitement.

I pushed twice and she was half way out when the clock turned midnight. At this point I heard the nurse marvel at her chubby cheeks and the doctor asked me to stop pushing because he didn't want to fight about what day she was born. He then asked us what we were going to name her and we said most likely Susan to which to then started singing "Oh Susie Q!" and making my half born child dance. It was hilarious and slightly insane to say the least.

12:01 a.m. arrived and one push later and Susan Adele was born weighing in at 7lbs 4 oz and 19 inches long. We fell in love instantly. Her tiny lips, big nose and dark brown peach fuzz all screamed Clark which has me thrilled since Liam is such a Davis boy.

Easter part 2 takes place in Draper, UT with the entire (minus Matt..we missed you!) Clark family. It was a fun weekend filled with great food, a great conference, dance parties, flower headbands, indoor Easter egg hunts and Ikea.

Here are some of the highlights of our trip down.
